Hi Howard.............Big Walter used that technique on at least one tune.  So
you are in good comapnay.  I have it on a Johnny Shines CD that features BW.  I
don't have it here with me or I'd tell you the name of the CD and the song.

Funny you should raise this subject.  I recently worked out "Serenade to a
Cuckoo", which I used to play on a flute in ~my~ Jethro Tull days.  It lays out
well in 3rd position and is a nice little jazzy melody.  It was originally done
by Rahsaan Roland Kirk who ALSO employed the humming, breathy technique on
flute.  So, yes Ian Anderson got famous for the style, he borrowed from
Rahsaan
